We don’t know what’s happening in your gardens but it’s very exciting to see some (rather early!) bulbs shooting out their little green tips from the soil here at Flourish.
The promise of spring is just around the corner and for us that means a cornucopia of Tulips; from the classic single variety to delicate frilly and bearded numbers, double heads and the show-stopping blousy peony types. Fields and tunnels will be carpeted with Narcissi in all shapes and sizes across all the shades of yellow and creams with little yolk-like centres, and in our tunnels Italian Ranunculi unfold their rose-like buds, fanning out layers and layers of tissue paper-esque petals that a pastry chef would be proud of.
Come and join us down on the farm on Saturday 20 April for a Spring Flower Workshop with our great friend Beth. Beth is a familiar face on the farm, she worked in our flower team for a few seasons and now runs the gorgeous @Flosinbloom down the road from us in Hitchin.
You’ll be greeted with welcome teas, coffees and a homemade sweet treat plus a cheeky glass of fizz to toast the arrival of spring. We will then head into the tunnels, where you’ll be shown how to harvest your own flowers (we will also be picking so if you have a bad back or any ailments we can do this part for you!). It’s a wonderful sight to see and connects us with where flowers actually come from (not the supermarket!). Beth will then lead everyone back to the Sundial barn for a Spring Bouquet Tying Workshop using your freshly cut flowers and foraged gems from the farm.
The art of being able to create a handtied bouquet is such a gift… come summer you’ll be able to cut from your own gardens and produce some stunning creations all with a touch of Flourish whimsical beauty. We will have a rainbow of ribbons and sustainable wrapping ideas on offer.
You’ll leave with a gorgeous bouquet and a new skill under your belt… Probably a few new friends too!
Find out more and book here.

The new year is a time for promise for the season ahead and much of the early part of the year is spent seeding by our farm team. We grow over 500 different varieties of crops here at Flourish - from vegetables to herbs, cut flowers, edible flowers, fruits and ancient grains. It’s a mammoth task with each seed being seeded by hand into its bed of rich nourishing compost. Each variety is hand chosen by Calixta for its flavour, beauty, taste and nutritional value and each variety needs to be nurtured and cared for in slightly different way.
We understand that many people dream of starting their growing journey at home, either in their garden, in patio pots or on a windowsill. But, it can be daunting when new to the world of growing. Come down to the farm for a fun and informal workshop with Linda from our growing team. You'll learn how to seed like a pro and will leave with future seedlings for the season ahead, some special seeds from our seed room and the confidence to grow with conviction.
Tickets are £20 and limited to 15 per workshop
Notes:
17 Feb 2024
The workshop will be 1.5 hours
Timings : 10-12ish
Coffee/ Tea/ Water provided
Homemade soup and bread provided
Please bring along waterproofs and sturdy footwear - some of the workshop will be outside
SAVE THE DATE: Join us, with Peter and Byron, for an afternoon full of fermenting, tasting and learning. We were thrilled to come across CULTJAR when we were looking for new and exciting stockists for our Farm Shop. Based in Somerset, Peter with his team of growers and chefs have created a fabulous line of ferments using a wide range of traditional methods and techniques injected with a modern twist spanning cultures from across the globe from Japanese to American to Nordic style pickles. Their playful flavour combinations and creative spin on a range of different preservation techniques is utterly joyful. They have been so popular in the farm shop that we jumped at the chance to host a third FLOURISH X CULTJAR workshop here at the farm. Tickets on sale soon.
Our workshop will be held at Flourish Farm Shop with a welcome tea/ coffee and homemade treat made using our heritage grains grown here on the farm. Peter and head chef Byron will explain the history and techniques used in fermenting along with the multitude of health benefits that have been so widely reported on in recent years.
During the workshop you will be shown how to make two different ferments (one will be hands on) and we hope to use as much seasonal produce grown here at Flourish as possible; fresh from the field to your fermenting jar….. it doesn’t get more local than that. You’ll also be given some other recipe ideas to take home to play around with.
You’ll leave with your CULTJAR recipes, the jars you’ve made and a passion for all things pickled.

Join us for an evening of wine tasting and nibbles with James from Thorne Wines. With the festive season galloping towards us, we thought it would be a rather lovely time to showcase a few beautiful wines that you might not have sampled before.
James is as passionate about food, quality produce and sustainability as we are so it’s a match made in heaven.
The focus of the evening will be organic, low intervention, biodynamic wines. How they are grown and how they differ to other commercial wines in terms of taste and impact they have on the environment.
We promise that this will be a fun and friendly wine tasting evening. No waffle or pretentiousness allowed in the building. Whether you are a seasoned pro or a novice we want you to get the most out of the evening – absolutely no experience or previous knowledge needed. We have just one aim for the evening; for you to leave feeling that you’ve learnt something new, feel more confident when asked to order wines and most importantly that you’ve had a jolly good time doing so.
You’ll taste 6 wines during the evening, and we will be creating some delicious snacks featuring Flourish Produce to enjoy while you sip. For those wines you love - you’ll also be able to buy a few bottles on the night or pre-order for delivery in time for Christmas. Tickets are £30 per person.
For those who aren’t familiar with Thorne Wines. This fantastic local wine merchants was started in 2017 by husband and wife team James and Ellie. James has worked in the wine industry for years including time making wines in both South Africa and the UK. Their enthusiasm and passion about plonk is utterly contagious. You are in good hands.
